"Make Money Online" - Wasn't That Hard New Topic Reply to Topic

One of my sites ez-onlinemoney.com hit the front page of Google about a month ago for the competitive phrase "make money online" that everyone loves to talk about. It dropped to page 2 and is now back on page 1 (from here anyway). The purpose of this thread isn't to brag, but to tell you guys and gals it really wasn't that hard.OK, it took some work, but I really didn't do anything extraordinary. Alot of article marketing combined with basic link building. I don't have any high PR sites pointing to it or anything that the average person couldn't do.Going from #11 to #10 spiked my traffic quite a bit, but I'm really looking forward to moving above the fold, that's where the real traffic is.So don't let people tell you that it's too competitive. You can get front page results with any keyword if you're persistent and never give up.Here is how I did it (in a nutshell.)The domain was registered less than a year ago (Nov. 2006) For the first several months I did very little promotion. I submitted a few articles, submitted the URL to a few web directories did a hand full of link exchanges, but nothing really helped the rankings.I did absolutely nothing for the site for a month (maybe longer) because to be honest, I thought "make money online" was just too competitive. But then, after a month or two, I was checking it's rankings and noticed it was finally ranking for "make money online." It was extremely buried (page 40 or so in the SERP's) but it was there. That's when I started to get somewhat serious with it, but still not as serious as I should have been. I started doing the sames things; submitting articles, submitting to web directories and swapping links. By this time I was submitting something like 1 or 2 articles a week, which really isn't much. Just by doing these very basic things I started to watch it rise a spot or two every time the algorithm updated. I was happy with it, but I knew the higher I got the more competitive it would get, meaning the harder it would get for me to continue the rise.Once I realized that, I started analyzing my competition, something I should have been doing from the beginning.I did a Google search for "make money online" and copied the URL's of the top 10 backlinks for each of the top ten sites for the keyword. Many of them didn't even return my email and who can blame them. I had a small site that wasn't ranking real well so it would be a waste of their time. Some of them did reply though. That's when I started "thinking outside the box." I'd offer unique articles for links. I even gave one guy a Website that I created but never did anything with. I offered links on other sites that I owned (none really had any good rankings) etc. etc. There were many different offers I came up with and some were accepted. Those scored me front page, sometimes sitewide, backlinks.I had nothing to offer that the average newbie doesn't have or couldn't obtain somewhat easily. I just realized that in order to get a link on these sites, I would have to come up with a good offer, not just a "I'll link to you if you link to me" offer. After doing all of that the site was up to page 4 or 5, somewhere around there anyway. Then I started writing an article every single day and submitting it to the top article directories. Doing that for a couple months brought the site to the front page. I won't say it was directly because of the articles, the links on my competitors pages or anything else, I believe it was because of a good combination of all of them.As I stated in the original post, the site then dropped back to the 2nd page. That wasn't long ago and I had, and still have, many other projects going so I didn't have much time to promote it.Not long after it dropped to the second page, and was barely hanging on to that page, a guy who I consider a mentor now (I'll give a name and link if he doesn't mind, but I need to ask him first) turned me on to a dynamic linking structure, which controlled the "link juice" pumping more of it into my front page and restricting it from worthless pages. About a week after I implemented that internal linking structure, the site jumped back to the front page (#10). It then worked it's way up to #7 and it's now at #8 from my IP as it stands.Other than the last part, which helped but didn't account for the majority of it's rankings, were done through very basic means. As I stated above, it did take time and work, but there wasn't any secret formula. I didn't buy some top secret, super SEO book or anything else. I just did exactly what were told to do on a daily basis right here on the Warrior Forum!!I also have top 10 rankings with some of my other sites for "article directory", "article marketing", and many others. All were obtained by doing the same basic stuff.
